MG Motor’s News & Top Stories

Every three to six months, MG Motor will introduce a new vehicle in India; two launches are scheduled for 2024

  • MG Motor’s new car in India: The joint venture between MG Motor and the JSW Group is currently known as “JSW MG Motor India Private Limited.”
  • From the existing 1 lakh+ automobiles produced annually, it intends to boost manufacturing capacity to up to 3 lakh cars.
  • Commencing in September 2024, the JV intends to launch a new vehicle every three to six months.
  • Electrified vehicles, such as plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles, will be the main focus of the lineup.
  • Additionally, MG announced two new releases this year, one of which may be an MPV.
  • The MG Cyberster idea was also on display during the event, however there is no word on when it will launch.

To grow MG Motor‘s business in India, SAIC, the parent company of MG Motor, established a joint venture (JV) with JSW Group in late 2023. In March 2024, the joint venture was formally known as “JSW MG Motor India Private Limited.” MG has unveiled its future ambitions for India with this new identity, which includes plug-in hybrid vehicles in addition to more EVs.

MGs A Plenty To Come

The automaker intends to launch a single new vehicle every three to six months, beginning in September. The specifics of two new models, whose launches are planned for this year, are still pending. All of these new vehicles will be produced in India and exported to a few other international markets, according to the MG 2.0 plans.

India’s First MG Cyberster

MG also showed the Cyberster concept, a two-seater all-electric roadster that will make its debut in China in early 2023, as part of the announcement. With MG‘s history as a British automaker best recognized for its compact sports car convertible, the Cyberster has the potential to become the brand’s future face.

Promoting Plug-in Hybrids Made in the Region

MG Motor India would benefit greatly from the joint venture with JSW Group in terms of localizing its upcoming models, which will aid in their aggressive pricing. In addition, the alliance intends to launch plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in India with a strong emphasis on clean transportation. Although the Indian government has not offered any incentives for this technology, preferring to focus on pure EVs, the potential for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) is considerable as the EV market develops, particularly in terms of a widespread charging network. Additionally, the joint venture will enable MG’s Halol plant in Gujarat to raise its yearly manufacturing capacity from the present 1 lakh+ cars to up to 3 lakh units.

Highlights of the Joint Venture Between JSW and MG

In this joint venture, SAIC provides innovative technology and products, and JSW now has a 35 percent share. The collaboration intends to launch new projects for the Indian automotive industry, including local sourcing, enhanced charging infrastructure, increased manufacturing capacity, and the creation and launch of new cars with an emphasis on environmentally friendly transportation. Together, SAIC and JSW intend to develop a smart and sustainable automotive ecosystem in India that will enable the production of linked ICE and EV automobiles. With this joint venture, SAIC’s automotive expertise will be maximized for new model development, and the B2B and B2C presence of JSW Group will be leveraged to build a strong supply chain.

Further Information Regarding The Cyberster Idea

The Cyberster design was first presented in concept form back in 2021. It is intended to be an electric sports automobile that rivals the Tesla Roadster. MG has already shown off the vehicle at events in the UK and intends to launch it in European markets in 2024.

The Cyberster’s all-wheel-drive (AWD) dual-motor configuration allows it to reach 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds. MG has revealed that the Cyberster, equipped with the dual-motor arrangement, generates 544 PS and 725 Nm, even though its battery pack alternatives have not been formally confirmed. An EV with a single motor that produces 340 PS and 475 Nm is also available. In 5.2 seconds, it can sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour.
