Maruti Brezza Retains Only Higher-End Models of Mild Hybrid Technology

The SUV’s gasoline-MT versions with the mild-hybrid technology now boast a stated mileage value of 19.89 km/l, up from 17.38 km/l.

  • Midway through 2023, the mild hybrid technology was removed from the SUV’s drivetrain configuration.
  • With the SUV’s higher-spec ZXi and ZXi+ MT versions, Maruti is reintroducing the technology
  • The mild hybrid technology is still unavailable for the lower-spec LXi and VXi MT models.
  • The stated mileage of the CNG versions, which is 25.51 km/kg, is unchanged.
  • One of the 1.5-liter gasoline engines available for the Brezza is a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT model.
  • The SUV is priced between Rs. 8.29 lakh and Rs. 14.14 lakh -Maruti Brezza Retains Only Higher-End Models

The automaker has recently reinstated mild hybrid technology, which was removed from the Maruti Brezza’s manual powertrain configuration in the middle of 2023. However, it’s exclusive to the higher-spec ZXi and ZXi+ models of the sub-4m SUV that come with a manual gearbox. The manual versions that are less expensive still lack this technology – Maruti Brezza Retains Only Higher-End Models

Why Is The Reintroduction Important?

The SUV’s fuel efficiency numbers for the petrol-MT combination had dropped by over 3 km/l, to 17.38 km/l, when the mild hybrid configuration was abandoned. The ZXi and ZXi+ MT versions of the SUV now boast a claimed mileage value of 19.89 km/l, an increase of slightly more than 2.5 km/l, thanks to the reinstatement of the mild hybrid technology. Even without the mild hybrid technology, the manual gearbox-equipped LXi and VXi models with lower specs still get 17.38 km/l.

Still A Petrol-only Offering

The SUV’s 1.5-liter normally aspirated gasoline engine (103 PS/137 Nm) is paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission as part of the mild hybrid arrangement. Maruti also provides the same engine with a 5-speed MT model that has an optional CNG kit, producing 88 PS and 121.5 Nm. The CNG version’s stated fuel economy is still 25.51 km/kg.

Pricing Range and Competitors

Retail prices for the Brezza from Maruti range from Rs 8.29 lakh to Rs 14.14 lakh. The SUV competes with the Maruti Fronx sub-4m crossover SUV, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Tata Nexon.

India’s Next N Line Model May Be The Hyundai Creta in 2024

The powerful turbo-petrol engine option is returning on the 2017 Creta, but some design cues and gearbox options lead us to think Hyundai is saving them for the N Line version of the SUV.

In terms of performance, the Hyundai Creta 2024 has emerged as the leader of the segment. In addition to all the new amenities and a redesigned exterior style, the facelifted compact SUV now comes with a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine option that produces 160 PS.  With the Creta N Line, Hyundai seems like they could provide us additional customization options for this powerful engine – India’s Next N Line Model Hyundai Creta.

What Leads Us to Believe That

  • Dedicated Users’ Manual Option

hyundi creta interior

We believe the Creta N Line may finally be coming our way for a few reasons. As previously stated, the turbo-petrol engine of the redesigned Creta is only available with a 7-speed DCT transmission. With the Verna and Alcazar, the same engine does, however, have the option of a 6-speed manual. This suggests that the Creta N Line might be the only way to get these alternatives – India’s Next N Line Model Hyundai Creta.

  • Increased Accessibility

It’s also important to keep in mind that Hyundai is only offering the turbocharged gasoline engine on the fully loaded SX (O) option, which costs Rs 20 lakh. Therefore, we think that, similar to the Venue and Venue N Line, the Creta N Line may provide the same drivetrain with further SUV options.

  • Design Distinctiveness

hyundi n line image

The turbo-petrol engine choice for the pre-facelift Creta was distinguished from other engine options by the color of the exhaust and the cabin. The turbo-petrol version of the facelifted Creta, however, lacks this difference. The ‘N Line’ insignia, sportier alloy wheels with brake callipers, a blacked-out interior, and even dual exhaust tips are expected to be some of the cosmetic enhancements that the Creta N Line will carry over from the ordinary model.

  • The Global Creta N Line Exists

Hyundai N Line

Finally, Hyundai has already expanded its N Line lineup in international markets with the Creta SUV. It is already available for purchase in a select South American locations (though not in the India-spec version), which increases the likelihood that the automaker will eventually tease us with a glimpse of the SUV’s more aggressively styled version.

Powertrain Details

hyundai engine image

The 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine (160 PS/253 Nm) that powers the regular model will be available for the 2024 Hyundai Creta N Line. It is expected to come with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission). Hyundai also provides two other engine options for the basic Creta; our comprehensive launch article contains the information for these variants. To distinguish it out even further from the standard Creta, the N Line variant may feature a slightly modified suspension system for improved handling.

Anticipated Release Date and Cost

It is anticipated that the Hyundai Creta N Line would go on sale in the upcoming months, with a starting price of approximately Rs 17.50 lakh. Its primary competitors will be the Kia Seltos GTX+ and X-Line, but it will also offer a sportier-looking substitute for vehicles like the Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, and Skoda Kushaq.

  • At Rs 10.70 lakh, the starting price of the Maruti Grand Vitara is the lowest among these, being Rs 30,000 less than the facelifted Hyundai Creta and Rs 20,000 cheaper than the Kia Seltos.
  • The Honda Elevate is the most expensive SUV in this comparison, with a starting price of Rs 11.58 lakh, but its manual transmission option tops out at Rs 15.10 lakh, making it the most affordable vehicle overall. In the meantime, the top-spec petrol-manual Creta costs less than the top-spec petrol-manual Hyryder and Selto models.
  • Every SUV in this area has a 1.5-liter manual-transmission gasoline engine that is naturally aspirated. With a 6-speed manual transmission, it produces 115 PS and 144 Nm for the Creta and Seltos. With a 6-speed manual and an output of 121 PS, the Honda engine is the most powerful.
  • The Seltos is a unique product in this market because it is the only SUV in the segment to provide an iMT gearbox, which is a manual transmission without a clutch pedal, with its 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine (160 PS / 253 Nm).
  • The 1.5-liter mild hybrid petrol engine (103 PS/137 Nm) that powers the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder is the same engine, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Although it is the least powerful option available, these are the only small SUVs with all-wheel drive (AWD).

  • Similar to the Seltos, the 2024 Creta petrol automatic is available with both naturally aspirated and turbocharged models, with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and a CVT, respectively.
  • With a CVT automatic gearbox, the Honda Elevate is the most reasonably priced petrol automatic compact SUV, priced Rs 19,000 less than the base Grand Vitara petrol auto.
  • In this comparison, the most costly petrol automatic model is the Kia Seltos DCT, which comes in its top-tier X Line specification.
  • A 6-speed torque converter is used in conjunction with the mild hybrid petrol engines seen in the Grand Vitara and Hyryder. Strong hybrid drivetrains are also available for both of these SUVs, although they are limited to e-CVT gearboxes. With a stated efficiency of up to 27.97 km/l, this unit promises substantial fuel savings.

  • The only two small SUVs with the option of a diesel engine are the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The same 1.5-liter diesel engine (116 PS/250 Nm) powers each of them. Though the Seltos diesel has a 6-speed iMT, the Creta offers the option of a genuine 6-speed manual transmission.
  • The Seltos diesel is priced Rs 45,000 less than the Hyundai Creta, while having equal prices. Even the Kia’s highest-spec diesel manual option is Rs 47,000 less expensive.

  • The 6-speed torque converter is standard on both the Seltos and Creta diesel automatic vehicles.
  • Compared to the Kia Seltos, the entry-level diesel-automatic variant on the Creta costs Rs 86,000 less.
  • The most costly diesel automatic vehicle in our comparison is the Seltos X Line model with the matte body. It is also the priciest option available in the current small SUV market.

In terms of upscale comforts, the 2024 Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are now nearly equal, with both SUVs providing more than the other competitors on this list. Although the top varieties of the Honda Elevate seem more attractively priced, they are not as well equipped. The Maruti and Toyota SUV siblings, on the other hand, have a better combination of amenities and technology, including true AWD and fuel-efficient hybrids, but their performance is just not as exciting-Price Comparison
