Hyundai N was the name of the performance division that the company founded back in 2012. However, the Korean automaker didn’t make the i30 N, its first Hyundai N product, public until 2016. And it wasn’t until the Hyundai i20 N Line debuted in 2021 that Hyundai introduced the N Line, a scaled-down version of its N division, to India. With the introduction of the Hyundai Creta N Line SUV, the company has now given its best-selling vehicle in the nation the N Line treatment.

It is noteworthy that the regular Venue receives a turbo-petrol engine option, but the normal Hyundai i20 facelift does not, as of the 2023 facelift. The same 1-liter T-GDi engine, available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, powers both models’ 120 PS and 172 Nm.

That’s a reasonable total for the Hyundai mass-market performance offerings, considering that these N Line cars are priced higher than the corresponding normal versions. 13 percent of N Line customers were women, according to another statistic, suggesting that Hyundai’s sporty vehicles appeal to a wider audience than just traditional auto aficionados.

Though it would be tough to declare any of the performance-oriented versions of mass-market vehicles successful, several brands have tried to carve out a space for themselves in the Indian car industry. Take the Fiat Abarth items or the JTP vehicles from Tata. Since the Polo and Vento, Volkswagen has produced “GT” variants; however, unlike the Hyundai N Line cars, they were merely the variants with more powerful engines and without much difference from the ordinary models.

A Faithful Following

Hyundai disclosed that forty percent of N Line purchasers were Hyundai‘s recurring clients. This may be taken to indicate that a large number of Hyundai vehicle owners were keen to purchase a vehicle that paired the performance of the Korean automaker’s turbo-petrol engines with more sportiness and visual presence.

Additionally, 82% of N Line purchasers select the top-tier, fully loaded model. This shows that, despite its higher price tags, Hyundai has discovered a sweet spot where its entire product, including its features, performance, and looks, has a significant appeal.

What Does N Line In India Have Up Next?

Well, Hyundai has already introduced the Ioniq 5 to its N performance lineup, which is all electric. Although the hefty price tag of the highly remarkable Ioniq 5 N may prevent it from arriving in India, the facelifted electric crossover will likely be available in this country as well. It now comes with a N Line variation. Hyundai chose to let the Grand i10 Nios concentrate on comfort and cost rather than testing the waters with an entry-level N Line lineup that included turbo-petrol versions a few years ago. We hope Hyundai has already plans for the Verna sedan and the Tucson mid-size SUV, as they are the final two contenders suitable for the N Line makeover.
