After making its premiere in India at the Auto Expo 2023, BYD has now officially announced that the all-electric car will go on sale in the country on March 5, 2024. The BYD e6 MPV and the BYD Atto 3 SUV are the company’s previous two offerings in India; the Seal will be its third. Let’s examine the products that BYD Seal plans to sell in India.
Additionally, the BYD Seal received a flawless 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP crash test.
Design
The BYD Seal has some oddball design aspects mixed in with a sleek, aerodynamic appearance. It has a U-shaped headlight cluster up front with LED DRLs at the bottom and connected all-LED taillights with a dot matrix LED pattern down the back. It also has aerodynamic elements on the front and back bumpers, which give it a slightly sporty look.
The BYD Seal appears to be a fastback from the side thanks to its gently sloping roofline that combines into a short rear end. Its 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels support its 0.219 air drag coefficient.
Cell-to-Body (CTB) Technology Acquired
By directly integrating the battery pack into the vehicle’s structure, the BYD Seal’s CTB (Cell to Body) technology enhances the sedan’s handling and driving dynamics. It is constructed upon the e-Platform 3.0, which is the basis for the Atto 3 electric SUV as well.
Interior & Features
Speaking of the interior, the BYD Seal has sporty seats and a dual-tone dashboard style. Its massive 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, which is even larger than the ones included with the Atto 3 and e6 MPV, is the primary feature inside. A 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system is also included.
A 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, a 6-way electrically adjustable co-driver seat, heated and ventilated front seats, and dual-zone air conditioning are among the other high-end equipment available on the global-spec Seal.
The vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability that powers your external gadgets using the vehicle’s stored energy is another feature that comes with the Seal.
Battery Pack, Range & Charging
The 82.5 kWh battery pack used in the global-spec BYD Seal is available with two different powertrain options:
Battery Pack | 82.5 kWh | 82.5 kWh |
Drivetrain | Rear wheel drive | All wheel drive |
Power | 313 PS | 530 PS |
Torque | 360 Nm | 670 Nm |
Claimed Range (WLTP Combined) | 570 km | 520 km |
Acceleration 0-100 kmph | 5.9 seconds | 3.8 seconds |
Both variations have a maximum speed restriction of 180 kmph. As shown in the table, the BYD Seal is compatible with a variety of charging alternatives.
Charger | Charging Time | |
Drive Type | Rear wheel drive | All wheel drive |
11 kW AC (0-100 percent) | 8.6 hours | 8.6 hours |
150 kW DC Fast Charging (10-80 percent) | 37 minutes | 37 minutes |
The 82.5 kWh battery pack in both versions is the same, hence the charging time is the same.
received five stars from Euro NCAP
After undergoing crash testing in 2023, the BYD Seal received a complete 5-star safety certification for both adult and kid occupant protection from Euro NCAP. The comprehensive crash test report for the electric sedan can be found by clicking on this link. In addition to a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, seven airbags, and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with features like automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane change and departure aid are all part of its safety package.
Expected Price & Rivals
