Tata Punch EV Charging News & Top Stories

Watch: How to Close the Tata Punch EV Charging Lid Correctly

The first electric vehicle to be built on Tata’s new Acti. The EV platform, the Tata Punch EV was introduced earlier this year and comes with a lot of features. It has a new range of up to 421 km, an EV-specific design incorporating Tata’s latest design elements over the standard Punch, and many other additional features. The charging flap at the front of Punch EV, which opens sideways, is one unique feature, though. You may be closing this flap incorrectly if you own a Punch EV; see how to do it correctly here.

The Correct Method for Shutting the Charging Flap

How to Close the Charging Flap Correctly

The charging flap opens in a novel way, as seen above: it pops up and glides to the side. Therefore, to close it, follow the same path back to its closed position. However, if you push or pull it from either edge while doing so, the charging flag may not close correctly. This problem will also be alerted to you on the instrument cluster by the Punch EV.

Therefore, you must grasp the flap from the center using the Tata logo to seal it securely and prevent the edge from protruding, and then follow the flap’s path back to the closing position. In this manner, the charging flap closes correctly and the sides line up exactly with the grille.

Engine and Transmission

Powertrain

The Punch EV has two different powertrain options, similar to other Tata EVs: a 25 kWh battery pack with an electric motor that produces 82 PS and 114 Nm, or a 35 kWh battery pack with an electric motor that produces 122 PS and 190 Nm. A claimed range of 315 km is provided by the smaller battery pack and 421 km by the larger one.

Features & Safety

Features & Safety

With features like wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, an air purifier, ventilated front seats, and a single-pane sunroof, the Punch EV is well-equipped.

Six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, and a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor are all included for passenger protection.

Price & Rivals

The Punch EV, which is directly competitive with the Citroen eC3, is priced by Tata between Rs 10.99 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). In the interim, it functions as a high-end substitute for the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.

Important lessons learned

Kia Carens

  • A new Kia Carens will only be available to buyers in Pune and Lucknow for a maximum of three months. Buyers in Hyderabad, Gurugram, Indore, and Noida can take advantage of its shortest waiting period, which is one month.

Toyota

  • There are some of the longest wait times for the two Toyota MPVs, the Innova Hycross and Innova Crysta. The latter isn’t available any earlier than six months, whereas the former has a minimum waiting period of three months
  • High wait periods are also a problem for the rebadged Maruti Invicto, which is the Toyota MPV. To drive it home, buyers in places like Chandigarh, Kolkata, and New Delhi will have to wait the longest.
71 Customised Kia Carens News & Top Stories

71 Kia Carens MPVs with customizations are currently in the Punjab Police fleet.

  • 71 Kia Carens MPV: A public address system and high-intensity strobe lights are included with the specially customized Carens MPV.
  • To power the extra equipment installed on the police version of the Carens, it is additionally outfitted with a larger capacity 60 Ah battery.

‘Dial 112’ body decals and unique Punjab police stickers are also included with the Carens.
The intentionally altered Kia Carens MPVs made their debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in two configurations: one as an ambulance and the other as a police car. Recently, the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 included the Carens purpose-built vehicle (PBV) variant as well. The Punjab police have received 71 Carens MPVs from Kia that have been particularly customized. These will be used as emergency response vehicles, to help the public.

How It Appearances

71 Customised Kia Carens

Kia hasn’t altered the exterior of this specially designed Carens variant, but it does have unique Punjab Police decals on the doors, bonnet, and bumper in addition to ‘Dial 112’ emergency response decals. Moreover, the roof is equipped with powerful strobe lights, similar to those found on police cars. The big antenna, which is probably used for long-distance police radio operations, is also visible.

With its 15-inch steel wheels, the police version of the Kia Carens appears to be based on the base-spec Premium model.

Modifications Made to the Car

71 Customised Kia Carens

The Punjab police received a 7-seater version of the modified Kia Carens. The public address system is probably mounted to the center console, and the major alteration is the semi-leatherette seat covering. It has second-row seats with 60:40 split-folding, and, like the standard MPV, the third row can be split-folded into a 50:50 ratio. For increased convenience, the second and third rows of this police version of the Carens have roof-mounted AC vents, and all four windows have power windows. A 12V power socket, five USB Type-C ports, and adjustable headrests are also included in all three rows of seating.

To power the added equipment, the customized Carens model has a larger 60 Ah battery. Along with its safety kit that includes six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system, Kia has also fitted it with amenities like a semi-digital driver’s display and idle engine start/stop.

Specifics of Carens’s Powertrain

71 Customised Kia Carens

This police-specified Kia Carens has a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. A manual transmission with six speeds is attached to the unit.

A 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine (160 PS / 253 Nm) mated to either a 6-speed iMT (manual transmission without clutch pedal) or a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) and a 1.5-liter diesel engine (116 PS / 250 Nm) paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed automatic transmission are the two additional engine options available to private buyers for the Kia Carens.

Prices & Rivals

Although the pricing range for the specially designed Carens model is unknown, the standard Kia MPV is available for between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 19.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). One may view the Carens as a high-end substitute for the Maruti Ertiga/Toyota Rumion, or as a more cost-effective option compared to the Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Innova Hycross/Maruti Invicto.

MORE THAN 2 LAKHS OF ORDERS AND NOT YET DELIVERED News & Top Stories

Mahindra Still Needs To Fulfill Over Two Lakh Orders, With Scorpio Classic, Scorpio N, And Thar Leading The Way

Mahindra Cars recently revealed the total number of pending orders for all of its vehicles, along with other particulars for each brand, at a financial report conference. As of the beginning of February 2024, 2.26 lakh orders were outstanding, including some of the company’s most popular SUVs, like the Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra Scorpio N, and Mahindra Thar.

Pending Orders according to Model

Model Pending Order
Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N 1,01,000
Thar 71,000
XUV700 35,000
Bolero and Bolero Neo 10,000
XUV300 and XUV400 8,800

1.01 lakh open bookings are shared by the Mahindra Scorpio N and Mahindra Scorpio Classic. That the Scorpio siblings receive an average of 16,000 bookings each month is a statistic that further emphasizes its appeal. Following up with 71,000 pending orders is the Mahindra Thar, which includes the rear-wheel drive variant. Three thousand five hundred XUV700s, ten thousand Bolero, and Bolero Neos, and about nine thousand XUV300 and XUV400 EVs have not yet been delivered by BMW.

The Mean Wait Durations For These SUVs

Model Average Waiting Period*
Scorpio Classic 2.5-3 months
Scorpio N 6 months
Thar 3.5 months
XUV700 6.5 months
Bolero 3 months
Bolero Neo 3 months
XUV300 4 months
XUV400 3 months

The maximum wait times for the Scorpio N and XUV700 in India’s top 20 cities are as high as 6.5 months, as can be observed above. At 2.5 months, the Scorpio Classic has the shortest average waiting period.

Even though the current back order total of over 3 lakh units is an improvement over the previous total, Mahindra has not formally disclosed the cause of the enormous pending numbers. However, deliveries are likely being delayed due to a variety of issues, such as supply chain and production limitations. Please let us know in the comments section what kind of waiting period you’re facing if you have any of the aforementioned Mahindra Cars models on order.

Mahindra Scorpio News & Top Stories

In January 2024, more over 90% of Mahindra Scorpio purchasers selected the diesel drivetrain.

  • The diesel and turbo-petrol engines are the same for all three vehicles.
  • Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are two of the Scorpio figures.
  • Mahindra is unlikely to phase out its diesel engines anytime soon given the tremendous demand for its diesel-powered vehicles.

One of the largest automakers in India, Mahindra is renowned for producing strong and durable SUVs. The fact that most Mahindra SUVs come with a choice of gasoline or diesel engines is one feature that sets them apart from their competitors. Popular vehicles in the group, such as the Mahindra Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio N, are available with identical 2-liter turbo-petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engines in various levels of performance. Here, we examine the gasoline versus diesel sales breakdown of Mahindra vehicles for January 2024 to determine which fuel type is more in demand.

Maruti Scorpio and Scorpio N

Mahindra Scorpio & Scorpio N

Powertrain January 2023 January 2024
Petrol 654 765
Diesel 8,061 13,528

The combined sales numbers for the Mahindra Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic are as follows. Here, there is a 4X4 option, manual and automatic transmission options, and a diesel engine.
One thing to keep in mind is that the petrol sales data only apply to the Scorpio N because the Scorpio Classic only comes with the diesel manual engine transmission combo.

Powertrain January 2023 January 2024
Petrol 7.5 % 5.4 %
Diesel 92.5 % 94.6 %

The 2.2-liter diesel engine is preferred with this tough SUV, which had sales of over 14,000 vehicles in January 2024. Not only do the gasoline versions have lower sales numbers, but their sales have decreased when compared to the same month the previous year.

Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar

Powertrain January 2023 January 2024
Petrol 334 657
Diesel 4,076 5,402

Similar sales splits exist for the Mahindra Thar as well, with diesel vehicles outselling petrol ones in terms of client demand. The Mahindra Thar has three engine options—the 1.5-liter diesel, the turbo-petrol, and the diesel engines discussed earlier—but only when it comes to the RWD (rear-wheel drive) versions.

Powertrain January 2023 January 2024
Petrol 7.6 % 10.8 %
Diesel 92.4 % 89.2 %

On the other hand, sales of the gasoline variants have climbed over the previous year, accounting for more over 10% of total sales.

Mahindra XUV700

Mahindra XUV700

Powertrain January 2023 January 2024
Petrol 1,375 1,989
Diesel 4,412 5,217

Sales of the Mahindra XUV700 for both gasoline and diesel saw rise, but the demand for the diesel variants remained higher than the demand for the gasoline version. The gasoline units fell short of 2000 units, but the diesel units exceeded the 5000 unit sales threshold.

Powertrain January 2023 January 2024
Petrol 23.8 % 27.6 %
Diesel 76.2 % 72.4 %

However, compared to January 2024, the sales percentage of its gasoline variations did experience an increase of almost four percent.

It is evident from these sales statistics for well-known Mahindra models that Mahindra buyers favor purchasing diesel-powered vehicles. Therefore, it appears Mahindra’s diesel lineup is here to stay, despite the ongoing price increases for the diesel engines that will soon be required to comply with even higher pollution requirements. Which would you rather use: electric, gasoline, or diesel? Tell us in the comments below.
