Sales of the Volkswagen Virtus Beat Those of the Hyundai Verna in March 2024

Volkswagen Virtus & Hyundai: Sales data from March 2024 suggests that the compact vehicle segment had a successful end to the fiscal year 2023–2024. The Volkswagen Virtus is at the top of the sales ranking, with the Hyundai Verna trailing closely after. Except for the Honda City, practically all compact sedans had positive month-over-month (MoM) growth in the previous month. The sales performance of each automobile in March 2024 is broken down here.

Principal Learnings

 Volkswagen Virtus

  • The Volkswagen Virtus was the best-selling compact sedan in March 2024, having sold over 1,800 copies. With a nearly 28 percent market share in the segment, Virtus has seen monthly sales growth of more than 13 percent.
  • By just 131 units, the Hyundai Verna’s sales just missed outpacing those of the Virtus. While month-to-month sales were stable at over 1,700 shipments, the company’s year-over-year (YoY) market share decreased by over 11 percent.
  • More than 1,300 people purchased the Skoda Slavia, a small automobile, in March 2024. The Slavia sold more than 200 fewer units last month than its average sales over the previous six months, even though it had the most month-over-month (MoM) growth of 32%.

Honda City

  • The sole small car in this group, the Honda City, saw a decline in monthly sales but managed to surpass 1,000 units sold. Additionally, the City’s YoY market share decreased by almost 10%. The change in variant-specific features that was announced in April 2024 is likely what caused this output decline, and the Honda sedan should soon resume its typical sales volume.
  • In March 2024, the Maruti Ciaz—which is currently regarded as an obsolete model in the segment—became the least popular small sedan. Its monthly sales jumped by more than 100 homes last month, despite drawing fewer than 600 buyers.

Additional upgrades to its features include headrest adjustments for each of the five seats and a seatbelt reminder.
