Maruti and Mahindra continue to be on the same positions as the previous month
The auto industry has seen a decline in sales compared to November 2023, according to the December 2023 car sales data. Following the October festivities, sales figures continued to decline, and the year-end figures were no different. Nonetheless, the top-performing brands’ rankings have changed this time around as Tata surpassed Hyundai in sales to take the second spot. Sales for Maruti Suzuki decreased both year over year (YoY) and month over month (MoM). With over a lakh units sold in December 2023, it remained at the top, but the MoM and YoY figures decreased by nearly 22 percent and 6.5 percent, respectively.
That changed in December 2023 when Tata surpassed Hyundai and moved up to the second spot. Despite a 5.6 percent decline in the MoM figure, YoY figures showed growth of 8.6 percent with sales of over 43,000 units.

Hyundai fell to third place in December 2023, selling more than 42,000 units. Although YoY sales increased by more than 10%, MoM sales decreased by more than 13.5%.
Mahindra saw a 12% decline in MoM sales but stayed in the same position as in November 2023. In December 2023, the automaker sold just over 35,000 units.

In terms of sales, Toyota overtook Kia in December 2023 and secured the fifth position. The Japanese automaker experienced a 26% increase in monthly sales and a doubling of its annual sales.
In December 2023, Kia’s monthly sales decreased by nearly 45 percent, and its annual sales decreased by more than 17 percent. On this list, it was the last brand to sell 10,000 units or more.
Upcoming Cars In India
Honda maintained its lead with nearly 8,000 units sold. Although YoY sales increased by nearly 12 percent, MoM sales decreased by nearly 10 percent.
This month, sales of Volkswagen and Skoda increased by one spot to 4,930 and 4.670 units, respectively. Volkswagen’s sales increased YoY and month over month, but Skoda’s sales increased only monthly.
Finally, in December 2023, MG fell to the tenth spot even though its YoY and MoM numbers had gone up.
