Real-world Performance Comparison between Honda Elevate and Honda City CVTs
In 2023, Honda’s eagerly awaited small SUV, the Elevate, made its debut in India. It has the same base and powerplant as the Honda City, therefore many of its mechanical components are similar. We recently evaluated the practicality of these Honda twins by driving the automatic CVT versions of both of these vehicles. Let’s test the speed differential. Let’s look at their engine specs before moving on to the performance results:

Although both of these cars have the option of a manual transmission, we will only discuss the performance of the CVT variants that we tested.

The Honda City outperformed the Honda Elevate by 1.4 seconds in the 0-100 kmph sprint, while the gap was less than 1 second in the quarter mile. Again, there was less than a second’s difference in their timings during the kickdown from 20 to 80 kmph. The Honda Elevate weighs more than 100 kg more than the City, based on the available kerb weight statistics, which probably explains why the City was faster. The sedan’s faster performance over the SUV is probably also due to its relatively more aerodynamic shape.

The Elevate stops about 4 meters faster than the Honda City while stopping from 100 kmph to a standstill. Honda’s SUV outperforms the City by 2.6 meters even while stopping at 80 kmph. The only disc brakes available on the Elevate and the City are in the front. On 17-inch alloy wheels, the Honda Elevate has wider 215-section tires, while the Honda City has comparatively smaller 185-section tires on 16-inch alloy wheels.
Key Points
Thus, the Honda City accelerates more quickly than the Honda Elevate, but the Elevate stops better than the City. They may operate differently even when they have the same engine and transmission because of differences in their weights and wheel diameters.

The timeline for the Tesla India launch is accelerated by the new EV policy that lowers import tariffs
A new e-vehicle strategy has been approved by the Indian government to position the country as one of the world’s leading centers for EV manufacturing. Due to high import duties that make their goods too expensive for their target users, international EV manufacturers are currently reluctant to enter the Indian market. If certain requirements are completed, this policy will enable these companies to import their EVs into India as completely built-up (CBU) units at much cheaper import duties.
Which Parameters Are There?
- The guidelines are more akin to restrictions put in place for major international brands by the Indian government. They are listed in the following order
- Within three years, the multinational EV manufacturers must establish a production facility in India with a minimum expenditure of Rs 4150 crore (about USD 500 million).
- Additionally, they must ensure that by the third year, they have achieved 25% localization, and by the fifth year, 50% localization. Additionally, within the first three years, they must begin producing their electric vehicles on a commercial basis.
- The imported electric vehicle must have a minimum CIF value of about Rs 28.99 lakh (USD 35,000) (cost + insurance + freight).
- With this benefit, EV manufacturers will be allowed to import a maximum of 8,000 of their vehicles annually.
- Not only that, but the brand’s investment must be supported by a bank guarantee; if the business doesn’t meet the deadlines mentioned above, it won’t receive its money back.
What Advantage Is There?
The producer of electric vehicles (EVs) will be permitted to import its products at a reduced import tax of only 15 percent if it receives approval from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (HMI), makes the investment that is supported by a bank guarantee, and guarantees to meet the other requirements in the allotted time. To put that in context, the standard import tax for CBUs is an astounding 100%, which is the reason why businesses can’t sell enough of their imported goods in India.
Arrival of Other Brands & Tesla
With lower import duties for electric vehicles, Tesla has made no secret of its intention to join the Indian market. To bring its well-liked electric vehicles to India, such as the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, which would have cost the same as luxury EVs at higher import rates, the American automaker frequently cited such tariffs as one of the chief barriers. Tesla may now be able to implement its plans in India with the aid of this e-vehicle regulation, provided that it meets the specified requirements.
VinFast is another EV manufacturer that has been holding back on joining the Indian market, but they too stand to gain from this strategy. Due to its ongoing efforts to establish local manufacturing in the nation, the Vietnamese brand enjoys a modest advantage.
Long-Term Advantages Of The New Law
We understand that this will push international manufacturers to introduce their EVs into India sooner rather than later, but how does this benefit the populace and the government? To benefit from this policy, corporations will need to establish manufacturing facilities in India rather than simply importing automobiles, which will lead to the creation of additional jobs. Additionally, since these businesses must achieve 50% localization to profit, it will help some Indian businesses that supply parts for electric vehicles increase sales and foster the growth of these businesses in India.
People will have access to international automotive innovations, and because of the policy’s lower import taxes and localization, they will be more reasonably priced. To lessen environmental pollution and transition to a greener and more sustainable future, the Indian government also intends to encourage the use of EVs in India.

exclusive to the DCT versions
The dual-camera dashcam adds nearly the same functionality to the otherwise nearly identical Creta N Line, which is based on the higher-spec versions of the standard Creta. Ventilated front seats, an all-around camera, and advanced driver assistance systems are shared by the two models; however, the top-of-the-line N10 trim level is the only one with these amenities. Take note that the addition of ADAS means that the N10 DCT model has adaptive cruise control rather than standard cruise control.

Tata Nexon Car: The Tata Nexon is a five-seater SUV with the option of FWD. The base price of a Tata Nexon is Rs. 8.15 lakh, while the most expensive variant costs Rs. 15.60 lakh. There are 69 different models available with 1199 and 1497 cc engines. This vehicle comes with a manual or automatic transmission and is available in both gasoline and diesel versions. Hyundai Creta Car: You may have noticed that Tata Motors, which is typically ranked third on brand-wise sales charts, has been closing the gap on Hyundai, which has held the second-place position for decades if you have been paying careful attention to Indian auto sales in recent years. In terms of monthly sales over the past few years, the Indian automaker has even surpassed the massive Korean company a few times. This is only the fourth time in history that it has occurred in February 2024 vehicle sales.

- Tata’s sales in February 2024 exceeded the Hyundai Creta Car by about a thousand vehicles.
- Year-over-year (YoY) sales for the Indian brand increased by about 20 percent.
- With around 7,000 units sold, Tata’s EV range accounted for a sizeable portion of its total automobile sales and climbed by 30% year over year.
- Conversely, in February 2024, Hyundai reported a YoY growth of over seven percent.
Reasons Behind Such High Sales Figures
Given that Tata is the nation’s top manufacturer of electric vehicles, it is evident from the figures above that their EVs contribute significantly to monthly sales. Recent releases such as the Punch EV and the redesigned Nexon EV have contributed to Tata’s advantage over its Korean competitor. The Nexon and Punch regularly appear on the list of the top 10 selling cars each month, demonstrating the high demand for even its internal combustion engine (ICE) range.
In contrast, Hyundai claims that it sold over 15,000 facelifted Cretas in total in February 2024—the greatest monthly sales statistic for the brand since it began in 2015. Exter and Venue together sell an average of well over 5,000 units month over month, making them another potent volume grabber for the Korean brand. Even if their figures are noteworthy, they are not as high as those of its Tata competitors, Punch and Nexon, respectively.
What Are The Two Brands’ Future Plans?
Tata has already introduced the Punch EV in January 2024, and for the remainder of the year, it has an electric SUV attack planned that will include the Curvv and Harrier EVs. Conversely, Hyundai is preparing for the March 11 debut of the Creta N Line. Hyundai is also anticipated to release the redesigned Alcazar and the Ioniq 6 in India in 2024.
We predict it won’t be long before the Indian automaker regularly holds the second-place position in Indian monthly car sales, given that both automakers are aiming to increase their production capabilities and Tata’s greater selection of mass-market SUV products.

India Will Soon Announce The Top 3 World Car of the Year 2024 Finalists
Top 3 World Cars: In contrast to the World Car Awards, which assess models sold across at least two continents, the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) award is focused on automobiles introduced in India. The winners of the 2024 World Car of the Year were recently revealed. EVs, specifically the BYD Seal, Kia EV9, and Volvo EX30, are the top three cars. Volvo EX30
Anticipated Release: Later in 2025

The automaker’s newest entry-level electric SUV, the Volvo EX30, is anticipated to arrive in India in 2025.
