Important lessons learned

 Maruti Brezza

  • The Maruti Brezza continued to be the best-selling subcompact SUV in the market with over 14,500 units sold, even if its month-over-month (MoM) sales decreased by more than 7%. In the segment, the Brezza continues to hold the largest market share at over 28%.
  • Tata Nexon continued to be the second best-selling compact SUV in the segment in March 2024 despite selling fewer than 500 units than the Maruti Brezza. Subcompact SUV sales have surpassed 10,000 units, with the Nexon being the only model to do so after the Brezza. Note that these numbers reflect sales of both the Tata Nexon and Tata Nexon EVs.
  • In March 2024, the Hyundai Venue—the third-best-selling sub-4 million SUV—attracted over 9,500 purchasers. Its MoM sales increased by almost 8%, and it now commands a market share of more than 18% in the category. It is noteworthy that the sales figures for Hyundai Venue and Venue N Line are combined in this instance.

Maruti Brezza Retains Only Higher-End Models of Mild Hybrid Technology

The SUV’s gasoline-MT versions with the mild-hybrid technology now boast a stated mileage value of 19.89 km/l, up from 17.38 km/l.

  • Midway through 2023, the mild hybrid technology was removed from the SUV’s drivetrain configuration.
  • With the SUV’s higher-spec ZXi and ZXi+ MT versions, Maruti is reintroducing the technology
  • The mild hybrid technology is still unavailable for the lower-spec LXi and VXi MT models.
  • The stated mileage of the CNG versions, which is 25.51 km/kg, is unchanged.
  • One of the 1.5-liter gasoline engines available for the Brezza is a 5-speed MT or a 6-speed AT model.
  • The SUV is priced between Rs. 8.29 lakh and Rs. 14.14 lakh -Maruti Brezza Retains Only Higher-End Models

The automaker has recently reinstated mild hybrid technology, which was removed from the Maruti Brezza’s manual powertrain configuration in the middle of 2023. However, it’s exclusive to the higher-spec ZXi and ZXi+ models of the sub-4m SUV that come with a manual gearbox. The manual versions that are less expensive still lack this technology – Maruti Brezza Retains Only Higher-End Models

Why Is The Reintroduction Important?

The SUV’s fuel efficiency numbers for the petrol-MT combination had dropped by over 3 km/l, to 17.38 km/l, when the mild hybrid configuration was abandoned. The ZXi and ZXi+ MT versions of the SUV now boast a claimed mileage value of 19.89 km/l, an increase of slightly more than 2.5 km/l, thanks to the reinstatement of the mild hybrid technology. Even without the mild hybrid technology, the manual gearbox-equipped LXi and VXi models with lower specs still get 17.38 km/l.

Still A Petrol-only Offering

The SUV’s 1.5-liter normally aspirated gasoline engine (103 PS/137 Nm) is paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission as part of the mild hybrid arrangement. Maruti also provides the same engine with a 5-speed MT model that has an optional CNG kit, producing 88 PS and 121.5 Nm. The CNG version’s stated fuel economy is still 25.51 km/kg.

Pricing Range and Competitors

Retail prices for the Brezza from Maruti range from Rs 8.29 lakh to Rs 14.14 lakh. The SUV competes with the Maruti Fronx sub-4m crossover SUV, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Tata Nexon.
