Principal Learnings
January 2024 saw nearly 13,400 Maruti Grand Vitaras sold, making it the best-selling compact SUV. Along with having the greatest market share in the class, the Grand Vitara has also shown the greatest MoM increase of 92% Maruti Grand Surpassed Hyundai.
- Hyundai’s Creta, which retailed 13,212 units in January, is the only SUV to surpass the 10,000 unit sales milestone, having previously only gone past the Grand Vitara. Even though monthly sales increased by almost 43%, Creta’s market share fell by more than 13% on an annual basis.
- Only about 6,400 people purchased Kia Seltos in January 2024, a decrease of almost 3,500 units from December 2023. Sales of the car rapidly declined. Compared to the previous six months’ average sales, its January 2024 sales were about 4,500 units lower.
- With more than 5,543 sold, the Toyota Hyryder, the stablemate of the Maruti Grand Vitara, ranked fourth in the sales chart. Over 11 percent gain in MoM was recorded by the Toyota SUV.
- Sales of the Honda Elevate saw a MoM gain of more than 4.5 percent in January 2024, with over 4,500 units sold. Honda’s all-new Elevate was introduced in September 2023, and as of right now, it has a 9.8% market share.
- In January 2024, sales of the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq saw MoM losses of approximately 56% and 48%, respectively. Last month, the Taigun and Kushaq sold more than 2,300 units combined.
- MG Astor’s monthly sales have increased slightly, by about 18%, but they are still not enough to surpass 1,000 units sold.
- With 231 sales in January 2024, the Citroen C3 Aircross continues to be the least popular model in the segment.

These 3 Features Will Make The Tata Curvv Like The New Nexon
The Tata Curvv will be the upcoming model to join the small SUV market in India. Similar to the Tata Nexon subcompact SUV, it will be available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) models. Let’s now examine the similarities and differences between the two Tata SUVs, as we have previously seen how they will differ.
Comparable Exterior And Interior Design Elements
Tata originally introduced the Curvv concept’s split-headlight and LED DRL design philosophy on the redesigned Nexon. The closer-to-production version displayed at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 indicates that it will also be apparent on the Curvv ICE. It has triangular housings for the LED headlights, chrome inserts in the lower part of the bumper, and more angular LED DRLs on either side of the grille. Similar to the facelifted Tata Nexon EV, the Curvv will also feature an integrated LED DRL arrangement.
Tata’s SUV coupe looks to have a touch-based climate control panel and a simple dashboard inside, just like the Nexon.
Typical Elements in Many
The Curvv will have two digital displays—one for infotainment and the other for the driver’s cluster—just like the recently redesigned Nexon. The 10.25-inch digital driver display will remain the same, although it may receive the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen found on the Nexon EV. Additional common features will be linked car technology, wireless phone charging, air conditioning, height-adjustable front seats, and cruise control.
We anticipate that it will come equipped with the same suite of safety features found in the Nexon, which includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. Advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking may also be fitted to the Curvv by Tata.
Comparable Fuel and Diesel Engine Options
A 1.5-liter diesel engine and a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine are available for the ICE variants of the Curvv and Nexon.
engine
Specifications | Tata Curvv/ Nexon Petrol | Tata Curvv/ Nexon Diesel |
Engine | 1.2-litre turbo | 1.5-litre diesel |
Power | 125 PS/ 120 PS | 115 PS |
Torque | 225 Nm/ 170 Nm | 260 Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT (expected)/ 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT, 7-speed DCT | 6-speed MT/ 6-speed MT, 6-speed AMT |
Naturally, Tata built the brand-new turbo-petrol engine in the Curvv, which was last seen at the Auto Expo 2023.
Launch Schedule for Curvv
The launch dates for the Tata Curvv and Curvv EV have been revealed, with the latter expected to arrive first. We anticipate that the Curvv ICE will start at Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Its competitors include the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Citroen C3 Aircross.

- There are some of the longest wait times for the two Toyota MPVs, the Innova Hycross and Innova Crysta. The latter isn’t available any earlier than six months, whereas the former has a minimum waiting period of three months
- High wait periods are also a problem for the rebadged Maruti Invicto, which is the Toyota MPV. To drive it home, buyers in places like Chandigarh, Kolkata, and New Delhi will have to wait the longest.

71 Kia Carens MPVs with customizations are currently in the Punjab Police fleet.
- 71 Kia Carens MPV: A public address system and high-intensity strobe lights are included with the specially customized Carens MPV.
- To power the extra equipment installed on the police version of the Carens, it is additionally outfitted with a larger capacity 60 Ah battery.
‘Dial 112’ body decals and unique Punjab police stickers are also included with the Carens.
The intentionally altered Kia Carens MPVs made their debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in two configurations: one as an ambulance and the other as a police car. Recently, the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 included the Carens purpose-built vehicle (PBV) variant as well. The Punjab police have received 71 Carens MPVs from Kia that have been particularly customized. These will be used as emergency response vehicles, to help the public.
How It Appearances
Kia hasn’t altered the exterior of this specially designed Carens variant, but it does have unique Punjab Police decals on the doors, bonnet, and bumper in addition to ‘Dial 112’ emergency response decals. Moreover, the roof is equipped with powerful strobe lights, similar to those found on police cars. The big antenna, which is probably used for long-distance police radio operations, is also visible.
With its 15-inch steel wheels, the police version of the Kia Carens appears to be based on the base-spec Premium model.
Modifications Made to the Car
The Punjab police received a 7-seater version of the modified Kia Carens. The public address system is probably mounted to the center console, and the major alteration is the semi-leatherette seat covering. It has second-row seats with 60:40 split-folding, and, like the standard MPV, the third row can be split-folded into a 50:50 ratio. For increased convenience, the second and third rows of this police version of the Carens have roof-mounted AC vents, and all four windows have power windows. A 12V power socket, five USB Type-C ports, and adjustable headrests are also included in all three rows of seating.
To power the added equipment, the customized Carens model has a larger 60 Ah battery. Along with its safety kit that includes six airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system, Kia has also fitted it with amenities like a semi-digital driver’s display and idle engine start/stop.
Specifics of Carens’s Powertrain
This police-specified Kia Carens has a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. A manual transmission with six speeds is attached to the unit.
A 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine (160 PS / 253 Nm) mated to either a 6-speed iMT (manual transmission without clutch pedal) or a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) and a 1.5-liter diesel engine (116 PS / 250 Nm) paired with either a 6-speed iMT or a 6-speed automatic transmission are the two additional engine options available to private buyers for the Kia Carens.
Prices & Rivals
Although the pricing range for the specially designed Carens model is unknown, the standard Kia MPV is available for between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 19.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). One may view the Carens as a high-end substitute for the Maruti Ertiga/Toyota Rumion, or as a more cost-effective option compared to the Toyota Innova Crysta and Toyota Innova Hycross/Maruti Invicto.
